Sci-Fi / Fantasy Book Reviews
- Haddix, Margaret Peterson. Double Identity. *** Although this book is not nearly as exciting as the Shadow Children series, it is definitely a worthy effort by the author and worth a read, as well. It is a mystery of sorts, and keeps you wondering through most of the book WHY the events are transpiring. There are only scant references to the fact that the book is set in the future. I don't want to give too much away so can't describe it more fully. Ending is very "neat and tidy," unlike most of life! ms. mudd
- Haddix, Margaret Peterson. Double Identity ****- i really love all of margerat peterson haddix's books. this one was good, but i guessed what the problem was or secret or whatevs right away. gracie K
- Lowry, Lois. Gathering Blue. Gathering Blue does not belong on my top ten. It was too alien and unnatural for my liking.
- Lowry, Lois. Gathering Blue. *** Gathering Blue is not a new (recent) book. I realized I had already read it when it first came out and read it again ANYWAY. I am not usually a big fan of sci-fi/fantasy, but I liked this book very much. ms. mudd

- Westerfield, Scott. Uglies. * Uglies tries too hard and is too cutesy for my taste. I just couldn't get past his use of such names as "Uglyville" and "New Pretty Town." Too juvenile. I understand the meaning the author was trying to convey, and the theme is timely and valid, but to say I disliked this book is putting it mildly! ms. mudd
- Westerfield, Scott, "Uglies" **** This was a great book, it was exciting and had a lot of adventure. I have to admit that the topic that was written about was on the weird side but it had alot of moments when it was really good. The end was very good because it left off with a cliffhanger and made you want to read the next book in the series. Michaela
- on uglies- ms.mudd! dont you think that it's possible that humans from that time could be that retarded? I do. but whatever. those names annoyed me a little, as well. Still. With things as stupid as they are today, it's possible! Anyways, it is a very good book in all other aspects. Thank you, and have a rather nice day. -Grace K NOT B 7th
- Grace (K, not B)! Yep, it's not just possible but likely that people can be that "retarded" (read: closed minded)! Makes you really think about how much we judge people by their looks and other things not having to do with the real person, huh? I am glad to read you are in BOB. Reading is the best thing in the world (next to cats, that is...)! And thanks for validating my dislike of the names. ms. mudd
- Collins, Suzanne. "Gregor the Overlander"-***** This book is one of the kind! just can't stop reading it until you read the last of the series! Gregor is an ordinary boy, just like the others. He falls in the laundry room to see that there is an Underland with people that have violet eyes and very, very, very, pale skin. Also, there are HUGE bats 5 full grown people can sit on, rats that're 8ft. tall, cockroaches as big as a long and wide table, and spiders that are the size of 4 school desks together. He finds himself in a huge prophecy, that will save every Underland human and battle a whole bunch of other stuff too. Well, say good luck to Gregor everyone and join him on his quest to the Underland! -Ari K.
